My Past Experience

I confessed to having some kind of past experience with games from each set of Pokémon games. This will make it easier to play through games I have experience with compared to those I have spent little time with. Today I would like to explore that past experience and evaluate how difficult I think it will be to keep to my schedule with each game.

Core Series Games

Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow

I have played and beaten both Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow multiple times and have partially played through a randomized version of Pokémon Red.
My schedule gives me 8 days for Red and Yellow and 11 to beat Blue including the post-game. I am hoping I can use these three games to get ahead of schedule. I won't play Blue until next Summer and the post-game is quite short, so I should be able to use that game to help me catch up if I am behind.

Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal

Pokémon Gold was the first Pokémon game I bought myself, so I have played through it with each of the starters. I eventually traded it for Pokémon Crystal and have played that game two or three times as well. These may be the games I have the most experience with.
My schedule again gives me 8 days for two games: Gold and Silver, and I have 13 days to play Crystal through the post-game. Gold and Silver should be a breeze to beat ahead of schedule. Pokémon Crystal has an extensive post-game so it will be tricky to beat the 13 day schedule but not too difficult to meet it.

Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald

Pokémon Ruby was the first Pokémon game I bought that I never finished. To be honest it was the "Too much water" at the end of the game that did me in. I have neither played Pokémon Sapphire nor Pokémon Emerald.
I have 9 days to play Ruby and Sapphire and 15 days to play the longer game Pokémon Emerald and its post-game. These are the first games that will make me sweat. Luckily I do not need to complete the Emerald Battle Frontier, but just need to capture all the legends otherwise this would be impossible for me. It will still be tight.

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum

Pokémon Diamond includes one of my favorite regions. I have beaten this game once and I have played the first half or so at least 5 times. Unfortunately these games have terrible pacing so I never beat it a second time. I have also played the first two thirds of Pokémon Pearl as well.
Despite the poor pacing in Diamond and Pearl the 10 days for each game should be plenty, but my endurance will be tried. Pokémon Platinum supposedly fixed some of the pacing problems, and I am optimistic the 16 days will be enough to complete even the post-game.

Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2

Out of the 4 games in this set I have only played Pokémon Black up to Victory Road. I am really lacking in experience here especially for Black 2 and White 2.
Pokémon Black plays pretty fast so 9 days for that game should be reasonable. Pokémon White is similar and 5 days for the post-game sounds like plenty so I am not too concerned about those two games. Their sequels are a different story, 8 days seems really fast for Black 2. Luckily I will be playing that game on its Easy Mode to better prep me for playing White 2 with the post-game in Hard Mode within a 16 day time frame.

Pokémon X and Y

I have played Pokémon Y once with a rotating team of 12 Pokémon and even having to balance and level up that many Pokémon it was very easy. I have never played Pokémon X.
With 8 days for Pokémon X and 15 days for Pokémon Y (with the post-game) I am not worried about this combo of games and fell like they should be good catch up games if i get behind.

Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon

I played both Pokémon Sun and Moon concurrently to the Pokémon League. I bought but never played the Ultra games shortly after they were released. I did not play them because everything I heard made me feel they were the same games again. I hope the differences are enough to keep me engaged.
With 10 days for the Sun games and 14 for the Moon games I am not too worried about these games. that feels like plenty of time. If anything I am just worried about getting bored.

Remakes

Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green

I have only played the originals never the remakes beyond the first gym. So... in a way I am very ready for these games until the post-game. Fire Red and Leaf Green have a post-game area called the Sevii Islands that is unique to them that I have never experienced, but I am excited to try them out!
For Leaf Green I have 8 days, the same as for Pokémon Red and Blue. It may be a little tight but I think it will be fine. For Fire Red I have 7 additional days for the post-game, to me that seems generous and very doable.

Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver

I have played my brother's copy of Heart Gold to the Bell Tower, and back when I did some Pokémon YouTubing while looking for a job, Alissa played through the start while I played Crystal. Needless to say I got a job and we did not finish, but feel free to watch the 6 videos we did post. These remakes did add a decent amount of material I have not yet experienced. Another game with a bunch of material I am excited to explore.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Pokémon Gold was the first Pokémon game I bought myself, so I have played through it with each of the starters. I eventually traded it for Pokémon Crystal and have played that game two or three times as well. These may be the games I have the most experience with.
My schedule gives me 9 days for Soul Silver, a day longer than for Pokémon Gold and Silver. I am pretty nervous about that because the battles in these games are known for running quite slow. It is one of the games I am the most concerned for, if I save time with  Pokémon Gold than I should be in good shape. For Heart Gold I will have 17 days, the most of any game. If I complete Soul Silver on time I should be fine for its counterpart including the post-game as well.

Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee

I have beaten Pokémon Let's Go Eevee, but not completed the post-game. It is a fine enough game although I feel it is the easiest Kanto game.
The Pikachu game of these two is the one with the shortest time allotment on my schedule at 7 days. I think this is a reasonable timetable. For the Eevee game I will have an additional two days for the post-game, given the grinding this game requires to fight all the secret trainers in the post-game those two days would prove difficult.

Unreleased Games and Side Series

Pokémon Sword and Shield

These games are not out yet, but I am overall excited about these games. I would be lying if I said the lack of a National Pokédex does not bother me. In truth it is part of what inspired this challenge and specifically dictated my strict rules about not using the same Pokémon more than once. Perhaps in a future post I will discuss further my feelings on Dexit and these upcoming games.
I scheduled 9 days for Sword and 14 days for Shield which are about the averages of other non-remake core series games. I may adjust my schedule after the games are released and more data is available for them on HowLongToBeat.com, but hopefully I have budgeted enough as it is.

Pokémon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness

I loved Pokémon Colosseum when I played it in Middle School. About two years ago I watched as my wife played through Colosseum herself. I also tried to emulate a randomized version once, but it regularly crashed on me. Thankfully I won't be using emulation for any part of this challenge. That all being said I know how slow the game plays with its double battles, but I know it pretty well. Pokémon XD on the other hand is a game I have no past experience with.
My understanding is that these games are about the same length, which is reflected in the 8 days for each on the schedule. If I end up going for the stretch goal and play these games we shall see how it goes. At the very least it would be pretty simple to play another game concurrently with these GameCube Exclusives.

What about you?

What are your experiences? Have you played all or any of these games?
